After a couple of sloppy recent performances, and despite missing their goalie through illness, U10Sat B put in their most assured performance of the season to win 5-2 V’s Malahide Utd in Gannon Park.

Park started slowly but gradually took control putting Malahide under consistent pressure. Ethan, Ben, Jack and Daire were everywhere, and it was only a matter of time before we went in front. A superb corner from Ben was met with a fine low finish by Daire. Park nearly scored again minutes later, as Lewis smashed a pile-driver of a shot off the post from 25 yards.

Park started the 2nd half strongly and quickly went 2-0 up, with Matthew finishing another fine corner from Ben. Moments later Ethan struck a curling effort that was destined for the top corner, only for the Malahide Goalie to pull off a fine fingertip save. Park continued to drive forward, but we’re caught on the break by a fine Malahide goal. 2-1, game on it seemed. However, Park again took control with Jack bossing the midfield, and Lewis and Callum marshalling the defence. Ethan soon scored the third with a nice finish, to make it 3-1. Park continued to pile forward, and further fine team goals from Matthew and Ben secured the win. Malahide got a late consolation goal from the penalty spot, a strange decision from the otherwise excellent young referee. 5-2 the final score.

It was hard to pick a MOTM after such a solid team performance, but the players voted for Matthew, who played goalie, left defence, left-wing and striker all brilliantly today. Special mention also to Ethan who was drafted in last minute and worked tirelessly for the team!
