No Peril in Perrystown as u13 Girls power on
U13 girls continued their winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 win over a well organized Manortown in Perrystown on Sunday.
A strong rear-guard action by the hosts meant that our potent attack found it hard to unlock their defense. Our only goal coming when Jaiden scored her 23rd goal of the season in the first half.
The second half saw some of the girls’ best football of the year; on another day Harriet and Amelie could each have scored. Sophie, our newest member, brought power and pace to the team and was unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Aoife Leeson, out with injury since September, returned with a high energy committed display and could also have scored.
There was some super passing and teamwork. Anna showed great awareness of her team mates with excellent passing and interplay. Elissa was powerful coming forward and linked up brilliantly with the strikers.
Grace and Aoife McGlynn shared the goalie duties and both girls pulled off great saves to keep a clean sheet. In addition to excellent out-field displays.
When Manortown came forward our defenders – Niv, Penelope, Maud and Aoife Mc – were well organized and brave. When there was any danger they made good decisions to keep the danger at bay. Manortown’s strategy of defending deeply and counter attacking caused one moment of anxiety when their shot bounced off the left post, flew across the goal mouth and came off the right post before being cleared to safety.
It could have been 5-0, or 1-1, but we’ll take 1-0. A magnificent seven wins in a row and back to the top of the table.
