Park Celtic U16 Girls Barcelona FEM Cup Champions
On the 29th of March 2026, Park Celtics U16 Major girls took flight to Barcelona to take part in the Inaugural Barcelona Fem Cup. The girls boarded their flight with excitement for an adventure to Barcelona. Before departing, the girls received some fantastic gear from the trip sponsor Oqema, the girls received t-shirts. gear bags and a hoodie, which the girls wore with pride throughout the duration of the trip. The first day, the girls got settled in the hotel and got to explore the local area before the tournament kicked off the following day.
The first day of the tournament saw Park show their ability on the pitch with a 5-0 win in their first game, and a much tougher encounter was next for the girls. While a 4-0 win looked flattering, it was a much tougher game with intense heat and atmosphere. The girls battled hard and with two quick goals in succession, and with this knocked the opposition and got a fourth to flatter the score line, the girls came away with 6 points from a potential 6 points. On the second day of the tournament, the girls began the day with a superb performance, coming away with a comfortable 7-0 win, playing some quick passing football which was tough on the girls as they had to play immediately after in the Spanish Sun. Despite their fatigue, the girls battled hard and, despite losing their keeper at half-time, won 1-0. On the final day of the tournament, the girls faced their toughest test in an intense last game of the league phase, with a final already guaranteed, the girls lost 3-0 against an excellent Spanish opposition, who the girls would be facing in the final later in the day.
With the girls recharged and refuelled, the final kicked off, and in a game which was back and forth with both teams battling for every ball, it was Park Celtic's strike from Maddie Brosnan which sealed the victory for Park Celtic. All of Park Celtics' coaches, players and volunteers could not be prouder of what our U16 girls teams have achieved. They are our oldest age group and continue to strive to be better every session and match. They are fantastic role models to our younger girls' teams, but have also shown the benefits of taking your team abroad.
Massive thank you to Oqema (Cormac McCarthy) and Truck and Trailer Tech (Jason Keating), without their sponsorship of gear and donations to the trip, the girls would not have been able to have had such a fantastic time and create memories they will carry with them for life. And of course, to the coaches on the trip who organised a fantastic time away for a super group of girls.
